about

Just like Hiroshima, Nagasaki had been relatively spared from bombing during the war. The Japanese believed this was because of the large number of Christians living in the city. The truth, however, was far more grim: The Americans wanted to study the effects of a nuclear explosion in a city as precisely as possible. And that's why they needed to keep the city in optimal condition.

The song itself is layed out as a micro-opera in 3 parts. Starting off with the mighty roar of the B29's engines, the first part is called “Bomb Run”, and tries to evoke the tension of the pilots as they manoeuvre their aircraft above the city in order to drop the bomb.
The second part is called “Detonation”. No explanation needed here.
In the last part, called “Victims”, we paint a picture of the aftermath of the explosion. Around 40.000 people died immediately, but many more succumbed to their wounds or radiation disease later on.

lyrics

Lyrics:

They walk through the streets like mindless zombies
Their clothes melted on their naked flesh
Eyes are falling down from orbital cavities
While faces are mutilated by a devastating heat

Buildings destroyed, no place for shelter
Only the cathedral half standing
A mother trying to protect her newborn son
While her arms nothing but a worthless stump

A fearless man seeks for his wife
Only to find her severed-head body
The endless terror of never ending wars
Where peace seems a word without meaning

Victims of war
A tragedy for life
A mark of brutality
A signature unreal

Victims of war
A tragedy for life
A mark of brutality
A signature of insanity
